📖The Full Story

Long ago, during a big war called World War II, there was a special group of brave African-American pilots and their support teams called the Tuskegee Airmen. At that time, many rules in America were unfair, separating people because of the color of their skin, and the military was segregated too. Even though some people doubted them, these determined young men from all over the country wanted to fly airplanes and help their nation. They trained very hard at the Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama, learning everything about flying, fixing planes, and navigating the skies. These incredible pilots became known as the "Red Tails" because they painted the tails of their fighter planes a bright, fiery red! Their main job was to protect bigger bomber planes from enemy attacks as they flew on dangerous missions. The Red Tails were so good at their job that bomber pilots often asked for them specifically because they were known for keeping the bombers safe. The Tuskegee Airmen flew many successful missions, showing amazing skill and bravery, which helped pave the way for a more fair and equal military after the war.
